Academic Departments

Each Academic Department comprises a Department Council and a number of Divisions. The Chairman of the Academic Department is appointed by the written order of the President of the Academy. The Department Council is composed of the Fellows of the Department. It is the responsibility of the Department Council to formulate and present the scientific programs of the Department. Each Division Council is composed of the Fellows, Associate Fellows, and Invited Scholars of that Division. The Chairs of the Divisions are appointed upon the recommendation of the Chairman of the Department and by the written order of the President of the Academy. Academic Departments also hold General Council meetings of the Department, attended by all Fellows, Associate Fellows, and Invited Scholars of the Department.
