In the 135th session of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution on January 5, 1987, pursuant to Article 4 of the Law on the Objectives and Duties of that Council, the establishment of the Academy of Sciences of the Islamic Republic of Iran was approved. Initially, 15 of the most distinguished scientists in various fields of the country were elected as full members of the Academy of Sciences.
