The Chair was first established in 1392 (2014) at the University of Tehran under the leadership of Professor Ali Akbar Moosavi-Movahedi. Over the past years, drawing on an interdisciplinary approach, it has been active in advancing research, education, science promotion, science policy, and the expansion of cooperation and scientific diplomacy related to diabetes, with particular emphasis on molecular diabetes, the biophysics of diabetes and stress. Among the main objectives of this Chair are the promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration in diabetes-related sciences and the investigation of the complex molecular mechanisms of this disease. The Chair has also taken important steps toward expanding the frontiers of knowledge, establishing joint memoranda of understanding with scientific institutions and academic chairs at national and international levels, and strengthening specialized scientific networks. The UCIRD also strives to promote knowledge sharing and dissemination, foster public understanding of science, and make use of national and worldwide capacities to enhance its scientific and social impact. The extension of this Chair reflects its scientific standing at both national and international levels and serves as a sign of the confidence that reputable global institutions place in the country’s scientific capacities in the field of interdisciplinary research that can contribute significantly to expanding the frontiers of knowledge and enhancing Iran’s scientific position.
