<div></div> <div>Following the establishment of the TWAS (the World Academy of Sciences) Workgroup in the Academy, the first meeting of the Workgroup of the Iranian TWAS Fellows was held semi-virtually on Sunday, January 29, at the Academy.</div> <div></div> <div> </div> <div></div> <div>The attendees included the president, vice-president for research and deputy president, secretary and planning consultant of the Academy as well as the Iranian TWAS fellows: Profs. Ali Akbar Moosavi-Movahedi (secretary of the Workgroup), Zahra Emam-Djomeh, Afsaneh Safavi, Yousef Sobouti, Dariush Farhud, Farrokh Saidi, Reza Mansouri, Reza Malekzadeh, Habibollah Firouzabadi, Ali Kaveh, Keramatollah Izadpanah, Mahmood Fotoohi Firoozabad, Ahmad Shaabani, Mohammad Sal Moslehian and Ahmad Oryan.</div> <div></div> <div> </div> <div></div> <div>At first, Prof. Davari Ardakani welcomed the audience and expressed his happiness for hosting and holding this meeting by the Academy. He pointed out that participation in global science is a necessity and not a formality. Today's science is global and it is impossible to be disconnected with this world. It is true that the science of each country is specific to that country, but it does not grow without connection with the world. The progress of science in our country also requires the scientific and international cooperation, including with the World Academy of Sciences. The Academy of Sciences of IR Iran is also ready to provide a platform for wider cooperation between Iranian TWAS fellows and the World Academy of Sciences.</div> <div></div> <div> </div> <div></div> <div>Then, Prof. Ali Akbar Salehi, while expressing his satisfaction for the presence of a valuable group of intellectuals and scientists from various fields in the Academy of Sciences, appreciated the continuation of holding such meetings. According to him, the interaction and synergy between the Academy of Sciences of IR Iran and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) will be useful in advancing the goals and missions of the Academy of Sciences.</div> <div></div> <div> </div> <div></div> <div>Afterwards, Prof. Mansouri, Prof. Firouzabadi and Prof. Sobouti presented a history of the activities of the World Academy of Sciences and Iran's cooperation with this Academy. Then, the participants while presenting their views and opinions, found the continuity and sequence of meetings to be effective in realizing the goals and plans of the Workgroup.</div> <div></div> <div> </div> <div></div> <div>At the end of the meeting, Prof. Moosavi-Movahedi thanked the professors for their valuable opinions and summarized the results of the meeting. Holding a meeting hosted by the Academy of Sciences by inviting the president and secretary of TWAS and Iranian scientists who are the TWAS fellows, cooperation with the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) in Shiraz, holding quarterly meetings of the Workgroup in the Academy of Sciences, reflecting the latest achievements of Iranian TWAS fellows in the TWAS journal, recognizing elite young people and prominent scientists to propose membership in TWAS were among the decisions that the attendees unanimously emphasized on their realization.</div> <div></div> <div> </div> <div></div> <div> </div> <div></div> <div> </div>
